Spring

Spring will be here this month...already!?!? I am most looking forward to daylight savings this weekend because I hate leaving work in the dark and having no time to play outside except for with a flashlight. Spring is the end of winter, and the culmination of lengthening days. Not that southern California has drastic seasonal changes, but it does rain more in the winter months and it does occasionally drop into the 50's. I am amazed at how acclimated I have become! Until I was in my early 20's I lived on the east coast and braved many a cold snowy winter (one thing I miss the least is shoveling my way to my car to let it heat up in order to get the one inch thick ice to melt off the windshield). Now 50 feels cold to me. Even our horses still wear blankets and still need body clips because they grow amazingly woolly coats that suffocate them in the heat. I think it all has to do with shorter days not necessarily temperature.

I think spring is my favorite season. I love when all the trees start to grow buds and flowers. The purple Jacaranda trees are amazingly beautiful when they bloom in the spring and are everywhere around here. Many streets are lined with them. My mother loved them. Spring just smells good. But the best thing for me is longer days! Take time to enjoy the beauty that spring has to offer. I'm sure it doesn't much feel like spring is coming if you still have tons of snow on the ground like my dad in Vermont!

Funny, we were just mentioning today ~ here in Vermont ~ how unlike spring it feels the past two mornings when the temps dipped below zero. Come on Mud Season!

The Jacarandas aren't blooming yet, but hopefully soon. I now for sure they are in bloom in May, but not sure how many months before that.

Oh, I didn't know your Dad lived in Vermont. Where we are, there are no signs of spring. Not a one. In fact, it was 10 below the other morning and while you are enjoying balmy weather, we are having an ice/snow mix with temps in the 20s.
By the way, I adored your photo! Absolutely breathtaking.

I love when the jacaranda flowers fall all over the streets. I know that's not springy, but it's just so beautiful...
