Our Beloved Kora

Our beloved dog, Kora, was diagnosed yesterday with stage IV cancer (lymphoma). We are devastated and trying to figure out the next step. I am waiting for the vet to call back right now to let me know if they are able to get the first round of medication to keep our girl more comfortable. I just cannot imagine loosing her.

I have several calls in to oncologists and two appointments set up for Monday morning, the soonest they can see us. Anyone have any experience in this area? Advice?

I am so sorry - I just lost a dog (Sunny our Golden Retriever) last year to cancer. He was almost 12, and the cancer was widespread and untreatable - we make him comfortable for a bit before he told us it was time.

Every dog owner has to make their own decisions, but considering that his cancer had spread and he was an old dog, we didn't want to put him through any treatments.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news. Pets are like family members, and it can be devastating to lose them. I hope Kora will be comfortable and not suffer too much.

This always seems so unfair...why can't our animals have a peaceful easy passing. however on the brighter side, our Little Olver Kitten was diagnoised with a brain tumor 2 and 1/2 years ago...we did radiation treament and he is still doing pretty good...except for his arthritis! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

I'm so sorry to hear this. We lost a dog to cancer - she was a chow and had tongue cancer which had spread. They can do incredible things these days to fight cancer so you'll have to evaluate all the possibilities to see what is best for your Kora. My thoughts and prayers are with you as I know just how you are going through right now.

I'm so sorry! We lost two dogs to lymphatic cancer. We made them as comfortable as possible until the time came for us to let them go to The Rainbow Bridge. It is a hard road to travel. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers, they are very much appreciated!!! I am spending as much time with Kora as possible, and trying to keep her comfortable and happy. Her favorite thing is to go out on walks, so that lucky girl has already been out today four times. That's really what makes her "smile" which in turn makes my feel good. I have an appointment with the oncologist tomorrow.

Sweet Tara, so sad to hear this news about Kora.
She is beautiful and what she has given to your hearts is more than that...I do believe our animals are going to wating for us in heaven! My favorite preacher, Steve Brown said if his German Shapherds were not there..he did not want ot go!
But, I hope you can continue to go on those walks and she does well should there be a therapy!
Be in touch and in prayer~Kac

I am so sorry to hear about Kora. It's tough when your pets are like children. I have an american pitbull terrier who will be 14 next month. Luckily, he's in good health although he has some questionable lumps. Because of his advanced age and how much he dislikes trips to the vet, we have decided to leave him be until he shows obvious signs of pain or discomfort. We know one of the signs will be when he no longer rolls in the grass (which occurs several times a day!). When that day comes, we will ask the vet to come to the house, and put him down surrounded by his loved ones. We take comfort in the fact that we have given him a wonderful life (we've had him since he was 6 weeks old). When the time comes for you to make a decision, just follow your heart. I wish you and Kora the best.
