Scraped up Mazzy

And just when I didn't have anything else to use my new herbal healing salve on.....
Mazzy somehow did a number on her face. Both sides have lovely scrapes. I have no idea how she managed it. Luckily not too much damage, no stitches needed, but there was some swelling so she must have bonked her noggin pretty good. She was a good patient when I scrubbed them out with Betadine and applied the healing salve. We'll see how good it works now! Gave her some Banamine to take down the swelling and releive the pain. I thought she was acting wierd when I went into her stall today she was shaking her head and just didn't seem right. She was definetly trying to tell me there was a probelm, but I didn't know what the problem was until I took off her fly mask.

OH! Swwet mare Mazzy! She pulled a Wa mare trick by getting into some place tight! So sorry, and glad it is not worse Tara!
I thought Bute was for pain and swelling and Ban was for Colic?

Doesn't always amaze you that you can't figure out what they did to themselves??? At least you have the salve!

Kac,
Banamine is in the same category of drugs as aspirin and phenylbutazone (bute). They are all nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. And yes, it is what you give for colic pain, but our barn manger said that Banamine works better than bute for eye pain.

Poor Mazzy, ouch, that looks like it hurts! I hope the salve works well. My Maggie Mae loves to eat grass from the other side of the fence and unfortunately it is barbed wire - it is the common fence between us and the rancher behind us and she has bulls in that pasture so barbed wire is essential in keeping them in. So Maggie has nicked herself pretty good on that fence over the past few weeks - fortunately nothing like what Mazzy did though!

Poor thing!
Glad you are in tune enough with her to notice something was wrong and get it treated quickly.
