Catch Up

I know I have not been very good at keeping up with my blog lately. Time just seems to get away from me these days. I want to make things more efficient, I want to be more productive, but there just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes. Work consumes most of my day and then its an hour and a half drive to ride and take care of my horses. I try and spend some time with my wonderfully understanding husband on the nights he is home, and work on my jewelry on the other nights. Household duties...I'm not even going to go there.

The weather here has been crazy!!! We had record breaking temperatures in the 100's two weeks ago (113 degrees on 9/27!!!). Kylie had already grown a 2 inch long winter coat, so she got body clipped. Last week it rained and dropped into the 50's, so I had to put a sheet on her. Now it is back to about 80 degrees and low 60's at night.

Mazzy's coat isn't nearly as thick as Kylie's, so she hasn't needed a body clip yet. It sure is shiny and dappaly (is that a word?), must be all the good stuff they are feeding her. She gets a hot lunch everyday. I can start riding her again at the end of the month, and I know we are both going to miss all the pampering she gets at the place she is at now!!!

A new equestrian mixed media necklace creation. It has a fox hunting theme. I'll be posting it in my etsy shop soon.
Here are some new goodies I just got with a verdigris patina that I can't wait to create with.

We saw Berlin at the Brixton this past weekend. Our friend Carlton is the guitarist in the band, so we got to go back stage! They played a great show including "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun, “Sex (I'm A...),” “The Metro,” “You Don't Know,” “No More Words”. Carlton just released a solo project, Shades of Scar "The Hollow Season", available through itunes. If you are into Electronic/Synth/Industrial/Darkwave music, you should check it out.

Depeche Mode

We got last minute tickets (the day of) to see Depeche Mode at the Hollywood Bowl. We really lucked out with great seats in the terrace section. They put on a fantastic show for a sold out crowd!!! Peter Bjorn and John opened the evening for this legendary British band. The band played many of their popular hits, such as “Personal Jesus,” "Enjoy The Silence," “Question of Time,” and “Walking in My Shoes.” David Gahan sounded great!!!

Depeche Mode also played their newer songs, with people standing and dancing to “Wrong.” Keyboardist/guitarist/songwriter Martin Gore (dressed in a flashy silver sequin suit) also sang lead on a handful of tunes, including the new song 'Jezebel' and a moving rendition of 'Somebody', which the band saved for their first encore.
The Bowl was packed and the audience sang along with every lyric, danced with every beat.
The two did a duet on the appropriately-named closer "Waiting for the Night," sending us off into the dark. Awesome show!

Depeche Mode set list:
'In Chains'
'Wrong'
'Hole To Feed'
'Walking In My Shoes'
'It's No Good'
'A Question Of Time'
'Precious'
'Fly On The Windscreen'
'Jezebel'
'Home'
'Come Back'
'Policy Of Truth'
'In Your Room'
'I Feel You'
'Enjoy The Silence'
'Never Let Me Down Again'
'Somebody'
'Stripped'
'Strangelove'
'Personal Jesus'
'Waiting For The Night'

Weekends go too fast.....

Where did the weekend go???? It was super hot, but that didn't slow me down. Saturday I rode in the morning before it got too hot. Kylie was great. Chad and I then went to the Make Music Festival in Pasadena. Sidewalks, parks, courtyards, alleys, building lobbies and other unconventional performance spaces were spontaneous musical stages. We heard one particularly good band called Switches. They were a British rock sounding band - we bought their album Lay Down The Law. After hearing them, it was time to cool off with a beer (or two) at Gordon Biersch. Then it was off to Missy's pool to meet Kim and Pete. After cooling off there we went for Sushi at Noda with Charlie, Woodman & Jon. We ended the busy day with a drink at Magnolia. One of my favorite spots for a cocktail. I like the outdoor setting. It is located on south Lake across from Borders one block north of California. It's very small, and there's a huge tree in the middle of its courtyard where the bar is with firefly lights all over it. Reminds me of back east. I love the textured wallpaper, the cool lights, and the clear furniture.

Sunday morning I rode Kylie, like usual, then I went out to see Mazzy and gave her a bath, let her run around in the new covered round pen, and walked her around a few miles. I took her up to the big barn and put her on the cross ties for some more grooming. The stallion was going crazy and she was a little freaked out at first but settled right down and was happy to be primped. I really think she is going to grow up to be a great horse (at least I hope). One of the dogs there, an Australian Sheppard "Jenny" had puppies with a chocolate lab, and they are adorable! They all look like chocolate labs, not at all like their mother. I am so tempted to take one home, but I guess I do not need another dog. I sat in the pen with them as all 7 of them crawled all over me – I was in heaven! I have a weakness for chocolate lab puppies! They were fat and squishy and made cute puppy noises. I’m curious if they will grow up looking more “mixed” than they do now, because you really cannot tell they are anything but chocolate labs. Sunday evening I spend a few hours reconditioning my Antares saddle, and it looks great! It must have been SO dry, because it is now a beautiful chocolate brown and before it was tan. Mazzy will be happy to be sporting such a pretty saddle!
