NO VETERINARY TAX IN CALIFORNIA

Sorry for another political post, but this one I feel really strongly about. In efforts to balance the state budget deficit, the governor's office is proposing a 9 to 10 percent sales tax on a list of things they consider luxury items which includes veterinary service and meds. This is really reprehensible at a time when so much is being done to heighten awareness regarding caring for animals. If the sales tax does pass it could go into effect next month.

Veterinarians, whose training and licensing is a rigorous as that of MDs will now have their care taxed as though they were dispensing canned goods. And the cost of surgeries, neutering, etc is high - an additional 9% will discourage many from giving pet care. This is morally WRONG; PLEASE HELP DEFEAT THE EFFORT BY PHONING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for defending those who can't speak for themselves and for those who care for them.

PLEASE TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO DO THIS. IT IS COMPLETELY AUTOMATED. IT ONLY TAKES 5 SECONDS - YOU CAN PUNCH THE NUMBERS ONE AFTER THE OTHER. SAY NO TO TAXES ON OUR VET SERVICES.

916-445-2841: 1 5 1 2

PLEASE CALL THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND MAKE IT KNOWN THAT BALANCING THE BUDGET AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR PETS' HEALTH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

CALL 916-445-2841

PRESS 1 for English
PRESS 5 for the Veterinary tax proposal
it will ask you to press 1 if you are calling about the veterinary tax proposal so PRESS 1
THEN PRESS 2 to oppose the tax

It is a sad thing, I'll make the call. At a time when people are leaving pets behind because they can't afford them they try and pull something like this. Really sad.

I am curious. How do you and other Californians feel about all the other taxes your governor intends to levy against you? What kind of financial burden do you think this will create for you?

Our properties taxes here in Florida went through the roof after the housing boom. I have a friend who is paying 12,000 a year.

The county also raised the dog tag fee to 50.00 a year when many of us protested to the newspapers when they tried to "swindle" dog owners into paying hundreds of dollars per dog in penalties for not renewing dog tags after "they" failed to notify pet owners.

States will continue to TAX AWAY AND SPEND AWAY and my final question is --with what results?

I AM GLAD TO SEE YOU ARE FIGHTING THIS UNJUST TAX. I JUST HOPE OTHERS JOIN IN AND HELP IN YOUR FIGHT. There is great power in numbers; there is great power in "words" on white paper.

Wow! I can't believe that would have even been thought of as a tax. I hope it doesn't pass. It really is unfair to everyone. Thanks for the informative post.

Do I need to be Californian to sign the petition? I'm definitely with you on this one... higher sales taxes are BAD for the economy right now, to boot!

I can't believe this! Kick the pet owner when they are down why don't you!! Grrr I hate these people. Why not just take the money from those high earners stealing from the govement.

Post away politically - it matters.

that is a shame! Pets are part of the family, and not just luxuries!
