Mazzy goes to the Foxfield Horse Show

I took Mazzy on a field trip this weekend. We loaded up early on Saturday to meet some barn mates and my trainer at a horse show. I figured the the new environment would be a good experience for her. She was perfectly behaved with no preparation (no lunging, etc.). I just unloaded, tacked up and got on. She didn't seem phased at all by the new surroundings, which according to some people are very spooky. I actually do know of  some horses that do not tolerate that horse show. I rode her around the warm up arena and also got into one of the rings during a break. The timing couldn't have worked out any better. I was very proud of how good Mazzy was. Next horse show, she may actually compete! The facility hosts a few horse shows throughout the year and my favorite medal final which I have competed in a few times in the past. Hopefully I will return one day to compete in the medal finals with Mazzy. Although I had been to this facility several times before, I just learned that the original Robin Hood movie, starring Errol Flynn, was filmed on the property years ago, and a portion of the grounds is still referred to as “Sherwood Forest.”
The only mishap was when I was picking out her feet she stepped on my toe. I had to lance the nail when I got home to release the intense pressure the trapped blood was causing, and just in time for sandal weather I will be loosing my nail.

Since I did not take any photos, below is a clip from when I showed Kylie there.

Foxfield Jumping Derby

The Foxfield Derby features a course of obstacles both inside and outside the ring. Divided into one class for Juniors and Amateurs and an Open class, the Derby starts in the sunken, stonewall-lined main arena. After a few conventional show jumping obstacles there, riders jump over a jump on the hill out of the arena to tackle several permanent fences (open water, Irish bank, drops, ditches). These are part of the lovely cross-country course that meanders through the tree-dotted property known as Sherwood Forest. Then it’s down the bank and into the arena for a few final fences. This is no ordinary event! The first three riders fell off, two right into the open water!

Jenny Terry and Harmony in Motion won the Calabasas Junior / Amateur Jumping Derby class in the morning. Astro Boy ridden by Amy Pulliam were the champions of the Foxfield Jumping Derby in the afternoon.Proof of first rider falling off in the water!

Foxfield Medal Finals

Laura Mormann on Vindoctro wins the 2008 Foxfield Medal Finals! Jessie White was second. It was a fun day, however, I missed riding in it. It is my favorite medal finals. Entry is earned through qualifiers throughout the year. The Final consists of two rounds of equitation classes, after which division champions are crowned in younger and older age groups. The top 10 overall riders proceed to a work-off for the title of Grand Champion. Foxfield's Medal Finals are unique in that it includes jumps both in and out of the ring. Riders begin the course outside of the ring in the "field" and then jump down a hill into the ring, jump around the course in the ring and then back out over the jump on the hill to complete the course over a few more jumps in the "field". Foxfield does an amazing job at making the competitors feel special, their jumps and ring are beautifully decorated with TONS of flowers, and the show is very well run and organized.I had my jewelry booth set up there, so I had a good view of the ring.

Lots of new jewelry

I have been making lots of new jewelry designs for my two upcoming shows at Flintridge Autumn Classic Horse Show, La Canada, CA Sept 27-28 AND Foxfield Medal Finals and Jumper Derby, Westlake Village, CA Oct 4-5. I have not posted any of my new designs on the website, I am saving it all for the shows. I have created many new equestrian designs, including a new line of sterling silver wire horse heads. I have also been making cool glass tile pendants.
